David E. Rowell’s interest in art and photography began as a young boy. He took numerous classes at the art museum in his hometown and excelled in art in both primary and secondary school. He went on to study art, photography and design at the Rhode Island School of Design where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
Upon graduation, David pursued a career in design and photography along with creating his art. He and his wife, Barbara, also an artist, established a successful branding, design and commercial photography agency. However, with the sudden onset of a profound hearing loss, David made a choice to devote himself to his fine art photography. As he was drawn to the peace and serenity of the coast, he began to express the relationship of his nearly silent world and the solitude and vastness of the sea through minimal compositions, soft lighting and creative exposure techniques.
David’s award-winning photographs have been selected for exhibit in galleries, museums and juried art fairs throughout the United States. His work is in countless private collections and many corporate collections including the Bascom Palmer Institute/University of Miami Healthcare, The Disney Corporation, INVEST/jackson National Life Insurance Co. and others.
David continues to explore the subtle affinity of shore, sea and sky as captured through his camera lens.
